Ceramic Vessels - Wheel Throwing (2022)
The wheel-thrown earthware ceramic series was an experimental attempt to physically provoke the emotions and complexity of relationships.
In doing so, the vessels in the series are made in pairs, complementing their characteristics and forms on a different scales. The "one big, one small" shadows a stereotypical concept of one should contribute more than the other, if not, it would not be a "good" relationship. However, both vessels' purpose of holding content does not differ, despite the volume each could withstand. By tackling this misconception, the bigger vessels weigh much heavier than inductry standardised ceramic vessels and without a doubt the relatively smaller one, convey the burden and pressure put on shoulders.
The glazing of the series utilises brush-on saturated gold and glossy black underglaze with an overcoat of clear satin glaze. The colour black and gold conveys the consistency and never-ending love older couples share for decades, hence the series name. The glazes conveys the longing for a stable, beautiful relationship in contrast with the idea of an imbalanced relationship.
